Asus Transformer TF101 not charging, SOLVED!Asus Transformer TF101 not charging, SOLVED! I purchased an ASUS Transformer TF101 a few months ago and I have been very happy with it. That was until recently. When I plugged it in it would no longer charge. I read on multiple forums that this was a common issue for Transformer owners and some fixes included putting the transformer plug into the freezer to cool it down and also to bend the pins slightly to try to...

Life Hacks

Category : General

Here are some hacks that may make your life a little bit more enjoyable.

  • Place all your hangers in your wardrobe facing the same direction. When you take some clothes out switch the direction of the hanger. At the end of the year you will see all the clothes that you haven’t worn throughout the year and it will make spring cleaning a little easier.
  • If you have a can of beer or a fizzy drink and you want to cool it extra quick then place the can in a container full of ice and add 2 cups of salt and then fill the container with water. Your drink will be ice cold in 3 minutes.
  • If you’ve lost your mobile phone charger and don’t want to pay for a new one then march into a local hotel. Tell them that you stayed there and left your charger there.  Hotels find an enormous amount of phone chargers left plugged in to the outlets and the chances are that they will have a charger to suit your phone
  • If you are ever in a hotel that uses a Nokia TV System then press the following combination on the remote control to get free adult entertainment: 2-2-1-Down Arrow-Press and hold OK
  • If you have booked a room at a hotel and want to cancel but are under the minimum time for cancellation then call the hotel, tell them that you want to change your reservation to a different date (of which there is no cancellation fee) then call back the following day and cancel your rearranged booking for free!
  • If you are at an airport and want to get free internet then try the following. Just add ?.jpg to the end of any URL (e.g. http://www.google.com?.jpg). Often Wi-Fi at airports do not redirect images allowing this hack to work.
  • If you suffer from brain freeze just press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This also make the urge to sneeze disappear.
  • If you are about to sneeze but it’s not happening for you as fast as you would like then try looking into a bright light. This will trigger the sneeze quicker.
  • If you suffer from sevre acne (of acne at all for that matter) try placing a freshly washed towel on your pillow at night. It will get rid of your acne quicker than any spot cream.
  • If you have sinus congestion try pushing your tongue against the roof of your mouth then press between your eyebrows.
  • Avoid stuffy and uncomfortable elevator rides by pressing the door close button and your floor number at the same time. You will find that the elevator goes straight to your floor without stopping.

If you have tried any of these and found them helpful why not leave a comment below and let me know how these life hacks faired for you.

Have you ever read something that is so obvious you wonder why you never thought of it? The article below outlines how to get the best performance out of your wireless for streaming your media.

Being a nerd I have numerous servers in my house. Because of the sheer volume of media that I have I decided to separate the video from the music and so on. I also have other wireless devices that I use on a day to day basis.

The article basically talks you through setting up two different wireless access points to serve different bands of wireless. Makes a lot of sense if you have a lot of devices like me!

Why won’t you SHUT DOWN?

Category : Uncategorized

I would imagine that all Windows users have been there. You are finishing up for the evening and you click on the Shut Down option and close the lid of your laptop only to find when you open it again that the computer hasn’t shut down but instead it is sitting waiting for a process to be killed. After reading up online I saw 2 nifty ways of stopping this from ever happening again.

Bypass Procedure:

Create a text file with the following in it: shutdown -t -s 00

Save the text file with a .bat extension

Save the file on your Desktop (or anywhere else you want)

Double Click that file whenever you want Windows to shutdown

Editing the Registry

1. Open the registry editor (click Start->Run and type regedit).

2. Locate the registry Key: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop.

3. Locate the value AutoEndTasks.

If it doesn’t exist – create it (type of String Value – REG_SZ).

4. Change/add the value data to 1 (the default is 0).

5. Close regedit and reboot.

For those of you that don’t know what Diaspora is, Diaspora is a Open Source Social network that aims to address the privacy fears of Facebook users by putting the user in charge of all their information.

I am going to install this on my own server and give it the once over and will report back here afterwards.

Microsoft to issue blanket license to NGOs | ITworld

Further to my post yesterday, it looks as though Microsoft are taking steps to distance itself from Russian authorities using Microsoft as an excuse to crack down on dissent.

Russia uses Microsoft to surpress dissent

Category : Uncategorized

Irkutsk, Russia: It was late one afternoon in January when a squad of plainclothes police officers arrived at the headquarters of a prominent environmental group here. They brushed past the staff with barely a word and instead set upon the computers before carting them away. Taken were files that chronicled a generation’s worth of efforts to protect the Siberian wilderness. The group, Baikal Environmental Wave, was organizing protests against Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin’s decision to reopen a paper factory that had polluted nearby Lake Baikal, a natural wonder that by some estimates holds 20 percent of the world’s fresh water. Instead, the group fell victim to one of the authorities’ newest tactics for quelling dissent: confiscating computers under the pretext of searching for pirated Microsoft software.Across Russia, the security services have carried out dozens of similar raids against outspoken advocacy groups or opposition newspapers in recent years. Security officials say the inquiries reflect their concern about software piracy, which is rampant in Russia. Yet they rarely if ever carry out raids against advocacy groups or news organizations that back the government. As the ploy grows common, the authorities are receiving key assistance from an unexpected partner: Microsoft itself. In politically tinged inquiries across Russia, lawyers retained by Microsoft have staunchly backed the police.
