Isn’t it weird how interesting sites seem to pop up when you’re stumbling through the internet. If you read my blog (not really sure if I have any readers out there!) you will see that I am trying to find a way to play old metal records that were sent to my grandmother from my grandfather about 70 years ago.

From my research on the web I found that there is wax in the grooves in the records that create the vibrations for the sound. On the sleeve of the records themselves it says that a wooden needle should be used when playing the record.

The records themselves are also to be played at 78rpm so I needed to get my hands on a device that allows me to change the needle type as well as playing the record at 78rpm.

Thanks to a friend (Emer) I managed to source an old Grammaphone. This lets me change the needle and play at 78rpm.

The only thing I’ll need to ensure that this method won’t ruin the record that I’m cloning.
